Barcelona, October 4, 2024 – InstaVolt, one of the leading companies in fast charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the UK, has announced its expansion into Spain and Portugal as part of its mission to accelerate the transition to global electric mobility. Owned by the purpose-driven investment firm EQT Infrastructure, InstaVolt is committed to installing more than 5,000 ultra-fast chargers in both countries by 2030, thus meeting the growing demand for reliable and accessible charging points throughout the Iberian Peninsula.
InstaVolt’s expansion comes at a crucial time for Spain, where public charging infrastructure has experienced significant growth in 2024. According to data from the Business Association for the Development and Promotion of Electric Mobility (AEDIVE), the total number of operational public access charging points in the country surpassed 34,000 units by the end of the first half of 2024. Just between April and June of this year,1,905 new charging points were installed and activated averaging 20 points per day. The fastest-growing installations have been high-power chargers (50 kW to 250 kW), which saw a 10% increase.
Despite this growth, the demand for charging infrastructure continues to outstrip supply in many regions of the peninsula. InstaVolt plans to address this deficit by promptly installing 120 chargers in Spain and 125 in Portugal, already signed and ready for construction. The first site in Spain will be at Cines Sucre, located in Vic, reinforcing the company’s objective to expand the charging network beyond the major cities. The site is easily accessible from the C-17 highway, supporting drivers travelling to and from Barcelona via the northern towns. The site is situated in a complex which contains an eatery and a supermarket. Meanwhile, in Portugal, the first charging points will be activated in Pegoes, ensuring users access to rapid charging infrastructure on high-traffic routes.
Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt stated: “We are very excited to continue growing and expanding our presence in Spain and Portugal, two key markets for the transition to electric mobility in Europe. The installation of 245 ultra-fast chargers in both countries represents a decisive step in our commitment to providing high-quality charging infrastructure that can meet the growing demand from users. We are confident that, very soon, drivers will recognize InstaVolt for the reliability and efficiency that have made us a benchmark in the UK.”
InstaVolt chargers are designed to offer a quick, easy, and hassle-free charging experience. They utilize a contactless payment system that allows drivers to pay with any credit or debit card without the need to subscribe, register, or be a member of a club or entity. This convenience, combined with a network reliability of 99%, has made InstaVolt the preferred choice for electric vehicle drivers in the UK. To maintain this standard in Spain and Portugal, InstaVolt will have engineers distributed throughout the territory and an internal team capable of diagnosing and resolving issues remotely.
